The joy of this campaign season is that the Obama re-elect (this is an Obama Super Pac surrogate, Priorities USA Action) believes that defining Mitt Romney as a plutocrat is enough to win. "If he wins, we lose." Spoke Salena Zito, David Drucker, Lara Brown, re the first Gallup tracking poll for the presidential race. It is a dead heat, with Independents favoring Romney. How does the Obama team move the needle? By naming Romney as too rich to elect? The record is that rich guys get elected since about George Washington, and before the presidency, William Penn of Philadelphia and those Virginia tidewater plantation rascals were never turned out of office because they were too rich. In 1936, FDR ran a successful re-elect by mocking the "malefactors of wealth" that he connected to Alf Landon and the GOP. However FDR was the plutocrat, and at least a piece of his success was that the electorate liked the act that Roosevelt was to the manor born. Here in the 21st century, will America turn out the rich man in favor of the middle class preacher? Unknown.
