McCotter: Let's Put AIG Out of Our Misery

The AIG firestorm overwhelms Washington, and the the few, very few, who have the correct voice on this scandal are those in the House of Representaives who voted "No" twice on the TARP folly last September 29 and October 3, 2008. That was the start of this legalized robbery by the bankrupts at AIG and their cousins the super bankers. Colleague Thaddeus McCotter, chair of the House Republican Policy Committee, was the only member of the Republican House leadership in the 1110th Congress to vote "No," twice against the TARP. On Monday evening, March 16, the day Washington caught fire on the AIG bonuses, Thaddeus McCotter spoke drolly on the floor of the House.

As much as I like Thaddeus, he too misses the point. He talks as if government had no role in contributing to AIG's problems. Where he eventually ends up is correct: AIG should never have been bailed out; or if AIG were deemed to deserve taxpayer money, it should have been done with the clear understanding that it is being resurrected only to pay for our government's sins. I have no problem with the concept of righting a wrong. What I do have a problem with is allowing this charade continue as it has without naming and shaming the guilty.

Concise, articulate, and clear thinker. His head is screwed on right. It would be nice if more of our congressmen and women would take a clue from T. McCotter.
