Very unusual remark by Michael Steele as he guest hosted on the Bill Bennet radio show. It is not an inaccurate statement of the facts. The Obama record in Illinois remains shrouded, guarded, delayed, lost, and the stories that Tony Rezko has to tell are unavailable. It is a strange limbo. The man who spent the most time with POTUS from 2002 to 2005 is in Federal prisoner facing more prosecution for corruption in Illinois. And the governor they both served and worked with, Rod Blagojevich, in in disgrace, stripped of power and waiting Federal trial for corruption. Strange days. We will know much more about Barack Obama, the early years, in the year 2029, then we do now. Transcript from Politco's Ben Smith via Talk Left.

"Oh gee, wouldn't it be neat to do that? Gee, wouldn't it make all of our liberal guilt just go away? We can continue to ride around in our limousines and feel so lucky to live in an America with a black president." Okay that's wonderful, great scenario, nice backdrop. But what does he stand for? What does he believe? ... So we don't know. We just don't know."
But we did know – at least those of us who were paying attention knew. Not knowing, in many ways, is the same as knowing; if we had only asked, “Why don’t we know? Is there a problem?” Some still don’t know – or choose not to know – even though the evidence has now become overwhelming. I’m beginning to hear people talking, saying they were duped. And I can only answer, “You have duped yourselves. The information has been out there all along.” Not that McCain would have been any better. In many ways he’d have been worse. …and Bush was bad enough.
Questions are now being raised at home and abroad, giving rise to this debate: Is Obama merely incompetent or outright diabolical? Perhaps Gerald Warner of Telegraph.co.uk said it best in an April 24th blog:
“If al-Qaeda, the Taliban and the rest of the Looney Tunes brigade want to kick America to death, they had better move in quickly and grab a piece of the action before Barack Obama finishes the job himself. Never in the history of the United States has a president worked so actively against the interests of his own people - not even Jimmy Carter.
“Obama's problem is that he does not know who the enemy is. To him, the enemy does not squat in caves in Waziristan, clutching automatic weapons and reciting the more militant verses from the Koran: instead, it (the enemy) sits around at tea parties in Kentucky quoting from the US Constitution. Obama is not at war with terrorists, but with his Republican fellow citizens.”
BTW, the same question might be asked of the leadership in Pakistan. Incompetent, or diabolical? For us, it’ll all comes out to the same thing, no doubt. The only difference being, how severely karma will judge these political perps. Obama can likely expect to get off relatively easy as he is accountable only for lying to a feckless public, whereas Zadari’s lies (according to B. Raman’s latest missive) are complicated by extortion.

Pervasive in our society is speculation from worldwide domination theories to capitulation and surrender. I, myself, have not fallen proselyte to either or any that constantly are mentioned. The world is not so easily compacted.
As Republicans try and counter the continuation of the Bush Administrations policies that the new administration seemingly has accepted as the way forward, they are actually exposing to the public how soulless the organization is now. In many ways, Obama cedes to the Republicans the correctness of the very programs and stances that they have heretofore endorsed, even if halfheartedly.
Enter M Steele and the task of discovering a new party line; a break from the Bush Administration; a different approach from a President who, despite it all, was able to hold the office for two terms.. and now, in many ways, is continuing for a third term under Obama.
What is curious is the battle with the Democrats and the dysfunctional family they are proving to be. They are completely stymied by this President and obviously view him to be an obstructionist to a degree. Dom Speaker showed this frustration in her statement concerning sloughing the EIT/CIA bungling while she fumbled for words to get back on message of the liberal agenda.
While people fall all over themselves trying to raise a virtuoso to represent conservatism and to do it as quickly as possible, in reality, they are avoiding the more pronounced dilemma of finding a true melodic line for someone to sing. This should be a lengthy endeavor and accomplished in solitude. To compose a worthwhile concert that will elicit thoughtful and emotional deliberation to a more than skeptical audience requires much soul searching and debate.

This is nothing new. It has been so at least since the Republicans took Congress in 1994. The dumbfounded and infuriated Dems watched many of their lions quit the Congress in stunned disbelief. For them, it was as if suddenly the sun revolved around the earth, a violation of the laws of nature so profound that nothing can mend it. Many of those who were in office in 1994 were still there in 2006 when the Dems retook both chambers. All those years in the wilderness they had been plotting and scheming revenge. The election of Bush in both 2000 and 2004 merely aggravated their obsession to the point of dementia. As far as they are concerned, no foreign or domestic enemy of the nation could surpass the threat posed to them personally and professionally by Republicans. Extirpating that threat is the only war that matters for them.
Perhaps we can cut Gerald some slack. He's a Brit, after all. Still, as bad as it's gotten, it's refreshing to see that at least someone's caught on. Our own media still seems to be mostly in the dark.

Serious question, here, not a gag-- Does anyone here give any credence to this claim by some on the right that there has been no public confirmation of Obama's birth records? It seems unlikely that a man who is not a US citizen could make it all the way to the oval office, and the claim makes a convenient conspiracy theory, but something about the accusation troubles me. Why wouldn't a president make his birth certificate public and quash the claims?
I agree with Steele's basic suggestion, by the way. Unfortunately, there will likely have to be a lot more pain and misery before people start seeing through the media's propaganda and start questioning leftist policies.

This is nonsense and Ben Smith knows it - or ought to.
Obama himself has 'produced' nothing. While some Obama-connected websites purport to have seen his COLB and have posted pictures of same, none of these photos are of his long-form vault copy 'Certificate of Birth,' which would list the actual place of birth/hospital/doctor/father/mother/etc. In fact, it's significant that Hawaii ITSELF does not recognize Hawaiian COLBs in certain circumstances, i.e. to qualify for certain Hawaiian government programs, etc.
In addition to the above, experts* have stated that all the Obama COLBs posted online are in fact pictures of crudely forged documents.
Finally, Hawaii did not in fact 'certify' anything. Instead, a cautious statement was released by Hawaiian authorities (following Obama's recent 'vacation' there) stating that Obama's original birth certificate was in Hawaii's possession. Conspicuously absent was any mention of exactly WHERE Obama was born, or under what NAME, or whether a new COLB had superceded an earlier one when Obama was adopted by his stepfather Soetoro (a likely event). In fact, NO birth details were included in this Hawaiian statement, which neither confirmed that Obama was born in Hawaii, nor that he had been adopted under another name.

This points toward the veracity of Obama's being a native-born American citizen.
My own pet conspiracy theory is that J.D. Salinger wrote Obama's books for him. Or was it really Thomas Pynchon? I forget. One of those guys, anyhow.
pulp - Your observation raises important questions. Why (indeed) wouldn't a president make his birth certificate public and quash any spurious claims? Is it just a childish 'stick in the eye’ prank to agitate and confound critics? Or is he really hiding something - foreign birth, perhaps; or his (true) religion at birth? Foreign birth would disqualify him from being president. His religion would not. Still, it might have caused him to lose the election had something like this come out in time.
Foreign-born or not, there are other unsettling mysteries: Obama's school and health records (under seal) for example. Obviously someone wanted Obama elected very badly. It is interesting to note that all the media outlets that have so staunchly refused to delve into Obama's past are now struggling financially. Who specifically was it that propped them up during the campaign? Have the same entities (or entity) withdrawn their support now that their man is comfortably ensconced?
More questions than answers. No doubt, something big has occurred. We all sense it. Some already see the outlines of it - those of us who can read between the lies (lines); those who have not totally swallowed the fiction. All the rest is denial which is rampant in America today. America is in a coma, waiting for a prince to kiss her awake; waiting for a child to shout, “Look everybody! The emperor has no clothes!”
Spencer has it wrong when he says that there's no difference between Republicans and Democrats. To the extent that Bush had fallen away from his 'conservative' principles only shows he too was compromised in some way by the same dynamic that ultimately brought Obama to power.
It’ll be interesting to read Bush’s autobiography provided he tells (or is allowed to tell) the truth. I have always thought of Bush as a ‘good’ (if weak) man. I believe he knows the answers to many of the questions some of us have been asking. His silence now only underscores that something deadly serious is afoot.
Michael Steele's comment that Obama was not vetted is true only from the general public's perspective--they did not know who Obama was because the media did not tell them. Conservatives knew who he was, and so did the media. Conservatives tried to get the message out to a larger audience, but were met by a stone wall--the media actively colluding with the Democratic candidate to prevent any mention of Obama's hard left, radical, capitalism-hating past from escaping into the public's awareness.
The media has always favored the Democrats, at least since WWII. But this was something different. In '04, John Kerry's lies about his Vietnam experience came to light not just because the Swift Boaters bought ads, but because the liberal media thought the best way to help their candidate was to try to endlessly refute the charges. The result was publicity for the charges, and doubts planted in the minds of many Americans who don't follow the news closely.
This time, the media decided to impose a blackout on any discussion of Obama's radical past. Jeremiah Wright surfaced briefly, but instead of chattering on about it, they basically spiked the story. Any conservative attempt to bring up facts about Obama's history that would normally have disqualified any American candidate were dismissed, or more commonly, ignored. John McCain helped this strategy work by his own policy of not bringing up anything 'negative'.
The strategy worked. And it continues to work. The alarming nature of Obama's attacks upon capitalism and conservatives is still being blacked out by the media, who have become so radicalized that they see conservatives as an enemy to be crushed, the Great Satan, just like Obama does.

Nobody but the Obama cult followers accept this as proof of a Hawaiian birth. There are several reasons why not.
For sure Bill Ayers wrote Obama's first book. NEITHER of Obama's 2 books were written by the TOTUS-dependent Obama, which the more aware amongst have known for months. You're late to the party.

bortog - 'The American Thinker' article was impressive only insofar as it detailed the scholarship that went into it. It used to be said of Clinton that he could openly rape a woman on the Capitol steps at high noon and the press would bury the story. Obama appears to have a similar set of guardian angels.
Did Obama write those those two books that sport his name on the cover? Perhaps. Certainly they are sufficiently tedious and evasive and self-pitying enough to make that possible.
Now, ask the next question.
Did "Doctor" Bill Bennett--whose dissertation was skimpy enough to embarrass an undergraduate; and whose radio show Steele guest-hosted, thereby starting this thread--write any of the books credited to him, including the hilariously misnamed "Book of Virtues"? No, he did not.
Republicans should worry less about what Democrats are and more about what they themselves are.
