Everyone gets one (just one) to keep the other from using theirs?
Press this button, yes, this one
Kruschev pounded his shoe on a podium and declared "We will bury you!" in a different era.
The antagonists of today know that reliable and ready Nukler WMD are plug and play de facto. They also know what constitutes a justification for their use. In essence, this fact relegates the deterrent to be symbolic because no one will ever use them to settle a dispute in some far off land.
The scientists who brought them into existence back then thought of the processes in trying to comprehend the elusive works of the hands of God. What were they thinking? It was just a task. A race to develop the ultimate energy source. Sadly, the work was transformed into the need for an ultimate fire extinguisher... one that would suck the oxygen from a nightmarish wildfire that had been raging for too long. Eventually, the charge became easier to accomplish and its potency more manifold.
The only use for them in this day and age is still what they were used for to begin with. That's why they are put away.
*Detritus Symbolic* and *To Test or Not To Test* remains the question. Who's next?
Yes, you are, JB - ringing it loud and clear! I'm sure the Russians were quite flabbergasted by what they saw - something like seeing a three-year old driving a bus on the expressway. The Russians haven't had time to digest it yet. They haven't even had time to formulate a response. Obama is a simpleton; unlike Gandhi, who spoke and lived simply but was solidly grounded in reality - and hard as steel.
Nothing real about Obama; nothing there to hang your hat on, even. Just the (as of yet) unformed mind mass of an ideologue permanently derailed by narcissism. God help us when they finally do figure it out; that what once was a great nation is essentially leaderless and looking for a home anywhere but in America. The unmitigated shame of it; the insult to accepted protocol. Is a touch of patriotism really too much to expect?
A hand reaches out and grasps... nothing.
WAS THIS VIDEO ACTUALLY TAKEN IN GHANA? The adoring crowd looked like the US press corps to me.
OK, SO OBAMA KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT RUSSIAN POLITICS, THE GIVE AND TAKE OF INTERNATIONAL DIPLOMACY AND IS CERTAINLY NOT READY TO ACT ON THE WORLD STAGE...
At least he has a keen grasp of economic theory. The kind you learn in law school.
In fact, what Obama's background as a community organizer and State legislator has proven is that it's better to run for President on no record than to have one. Just ask John McCain. I think soon-to-be ex-Gov. Palin has picked up on this.
BHOs speech was pitch perfect. Would have liked to see him visit an African Church, The front line between the Christian and Islamic world runs through Africa.
Like JFKs historic Visit to the Republic of Ireland, BHO had to go to Africa. He's locking up the African votes for the 2016 Olympiad too.
Gleaned from news wires: State Dept says stunts like these don't promote stability in the region. Uhhhh, ya think?--->
Not so subtly, Medvedev visits South Ossetia Monday on tour of a Russian army base near Tskhinvali.
"The base is a signal for those who may have idiotic plans in their heads," he said.
He also acknowledged that a test of a missile had been launched from a Nukler sub. It was not the new class inter-continental Bulava that has failed 5 times in 5 tests, but, was a reliable ballistic Sineva. On Tuesday, the guided missile destroyer USS Stout arrives for joint maneuvers with Georgian naval vessels and anchors at Batumi while Russian jets take target practice on mock targets nearby.
Shortly thereafter, Medvedev watches through binoculars as Russian fighters perform ground strikes against practice targets near Novorrossiisk on the Black Sea.
*Things are going just magnificently as we "reset" our relationships and build trust, don't you think?*
Oh yeah, Biden returns to Georgia in about a week, too. This time as VPotUS. He'll also visit the Ukraine on this trip.
