Unborn Murder.
The Juárez-based drugs and guns cartel continues to intimidate and retaliate against the recent decision by US to integrate DEA intelligence with Mexican authority. The killings on March 13 were not idle, when hired guns from El Paso or other safe houses north of the border shot up vehicles with US citizens, consular employees, killing three, including an unborn child. The city of Juárez is the depopulated murder capital of the Western Hemipshere. President Calderon deployed Mexican army units to all major drug cities with no results; there are at least 7,000 troops in Juárez, and they guard themselves. A major US mission arrived in Mexico City last week, with Clinton, Gates, Napolitano, Blair on board. The results look more of the same: money and law enforcement. The headless police chief looks to be the answer from the cartels. There is no reason to doubt that the cartels are fully briefed on all Mexican military and police operations. If this is a war, the enemy is winning. Another headless police chief. An enemy of the cartel, or one of its stooges who got greedy?
The Fence.
Spoke to Nicholas Casey, Ana Campoy, David Luhnow, all WSJ, a week back to learn, among other details, that the virtual fence test by the contractor Boeing is a failure, and that any effectiveness of the hard fence is vastly overestimated. US Border Patrol is not equipped to confront or manage the cartel shooters. Juárez is beyond lawless, a predatory environment of devalued human beings with no restraints and boundless vice. Mary O'Grady, WSJ, recommends decriminalizing marijiuana for the start, because the cartels pay the gunmen with money from the marijuana alone, or just pay them in weed. She advocates solving the crisis by decriminalizing cocaine as well, all of it, turning it into a health crisis, not a law crisis. David Luhnow measures the Calderon decision to deploy the military has failed in the mind of the public. When StateSec Clinton was asked first thing if she would consider decriminalization as a tactic, she said, "No." Old ideas, same results, one proof of policy inertia, also national madness. A cokehead is a threat to me and my neighborhood? Nah. Marijuana is a threat to me and my children? Where? The DEA is a useful tool? Nah. Northern Mexico is a sinkhole of defeatism and despair? Yes. The US population's grotesque demand for drugs is the missing linkage? Yes. The demand is the enemy. Cut the demand, cut the shooters.

To say that a physical fence on our southern border would not keep out illegals is a crude and obvious canard. A similar fence works just fine for the Israelis.
Mothers of America would never allow decriminalization. Smart politicians would use this as a wedge issue to frighten Mothers and use their fear to get their vote.
Look at the sales of hand antiseptics, even though this encourages resistant Bacterium and Virii mothers still dole it out like candy.
California will have a vote to decriminalize Marijuana, very interesting vote.

The trouble on our border with Mexico is God’s finger pointing down and saying, “Hey guys, you better take care of this.” Unfortunately we’ve become too bankrupt of will and ideas which would preclude our being anything close to effective. All I hear is the not so distant strains of our continuing, (now) well-worn apology tour. Seems fair: two Mexican police chiefs are found in their vehicles with their heads cut off and we here in America are to blame. I actually do remember hearing this song before. Remember Daniel Pearl?
If it weren’t for our demand for drugs; if it weren’t for our guns, we could all just take our picnic baskets and hang out in the open on daisy-covered hills. If it weren’t for America, period; the whole world would be paradise. Let’s start by confiscating money and guns (like the White House Drug Czar said). But hold on a minute! Isn’t that what they’re already doing – the money part, I mean? Have you looked at your tax bill lately? Been there, done that. Now, let’s go on to guns. Don’t kid yourselves, it’s coming. The Second Amendment be damned. Besides, we can always get guns should we need them from across Mexico’s southern border, courtesy of Chavez and his ever-growing army of stooges.
The fact that they’re even talking about legalizing drugs means that all the adults have permanently left the room. Obama’s vision of Zombie America should be just around the corner. “Do a little dance – make a little love – get down tonight – get down tonight…”

Sidebar: You think what I'm saying is nonsense? Get this: On March 19th, Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein rejected the proposed $657.5 settlement with the City of New York, stating in open court that he did so because it did not offer enough compensation to the workers for their illnesses stemming from their work at or near Ground Zero. The amount of money is not relevant here. What this means is that the victimized City of New York is now liable for damages caused by the 9/11 terror attack. In our twisted logic, the girl is to blame for the rape.

treating drug abuse as a public health issue with treatment and education makes sense to me. it removes a revenue stream from some quite bad actors. that solution kills the root.
i think the zombie nation forecast is about as sensible as a drunkard nation one - both could happen but neither one will. reefer madness is a cult classic comedy because people who have had any real exposure to marijuana use know that the caricatures in the film are just campy cartoons with no bearing on reality. to seriously propose that kind of picture of drug use is a sure way to cause people who know better to tune out.
the overwhelming preponderance of americans can be persuaded that crack and heroin and other nightmares are something to be avoided merely by telling and showing the truth of the consequences of those drugs. the remaining few who become users and eventually addicts can be managed and treated without having as a side effect the beheading of police chiefs or the subornation of national governments.
reefer may make people say silly things at times but if you really want to hear condensed stupidity give me three martini's and a soap box.
"...To say that a physical fence on our southern border would not keep out illegals is a crude and obvious canard. A similar fence works just fine for the Israelis...."
The IDF shoots anyone who crosses the line, we use "border guards" who are less trained and have huge expanses to cover. Several have been jailed for defending themselves and in today's racially charged environment, it is difficult to maintain a safe border.
We also have a two party political system: One that looks at Illegals as future voters and union members, the other is terrified of being labeled racist.
I concur.
If the U.S. can't control its own borders, can it rightly be termed a country any more?
If the answer to that question is a negative one, the inhabitants--the term "citizens" being no longer applicable--of this land would be well advised to re-consider the nature of their relationship to their rulers.
