Newt Opera Sings

The professionals can see that at least for the next few months the GOP is burdened with a handful of shopworn candidates who cannot be collectively cobbled into a winner.

Newt Gingrich's passionate one-man victory in the South Carolina primary has established the 2012 GOP nomination as a comic opera to enjoy during another winter of discontent....  more

"... Gingrich’s twenty-minute-plus speech ... was greatly comforting to the audience because it was constructed from alarms and suspicions heard every day on ... Fox News Channel and talk radio."

Just because we've heard it all before, doesn't mean it isn't true, doesn't mean we're tired of hearing it and doesn't mean it won't get votes.

In countless debates and speeches, how much can really be new?

Bingo, Mike. The Beltway-Manhattan-MSM centric wings of the GOP are suddenly simpering on suicide watch. Who foresaw the deep, profound ideological disaster that was BHO any earlier than did some sage people on FNC (Hume, Krauthammer) and talk radio (Rush, Levin, Hannity, Beck, Prager, Dennis Miller)? The NorthEast Atlantic and CA-mentality GOP Establishment and PC nebbishes were WAY late to the party, afraid to call a shovel a shovel, and would have navel gazed and cowered into a wimpering, defeatist, self-flagellating, self-sustaining minority. No, the era of Reagan was NOT dead. Meanwhile, the much derided Tea Party ranks channeled Locke, Burke, Madison, TJ, Adams, Tocqueville and Reagan and helped a bunch of betas cease their loser hysteria and grow a pair. A new course is set was set in 2010. It continues, despite being called racist, whistled dogs, yahoos and all the other such yapping from condescending elites both Dem and GOP.

Cannot tell you today whether Mitt or Newt gets the nomination. But whoever it is, an army of Reaganite FNC and talk radio devotees will pull his gluteus maximus across the finish line and grow the ranks of GOPers like Rubio, West, Lee, Ryan.

Double bingo, Mike!
Darn near a masterpiece, Hayek Rules. Praise Whom all blessings flow; count FNC somewhere in there. too! "...afraid to call a shovel a shovel,... (?) LOL!

Dear President Obama,

Shortly you will be before congress and delivering your thoughts as to the state of the union. Please allow me to do this for you; the sate of this nations will and people is as strong as ever, but the state of the federal government is in the toilet. Never ceases to amaze me how the boss is always the first person not to agree with his critics even when they are correct. This morning, Bret Stephens, posed the argument that to not nominate Mitt Romney would guarantee you four more years in the big chair. When I meet people, who happen to be black, and they tell me, “I’m voting for the white guy!” The difference between the regular people and those of your ilk and apparently Mr. Stephen’s too, is as wide a chasm as I can imagine. Americans will give anyone a chance, almost to a fault, but at some point they wake up and say . . . “Holy crap he did what!?!?” so many times that voting against them is the only option.

The five millionth GOP debate, and the one before it, clearly demonstrate this reality. The crowds reaction to Mr. Gingrich laying it all out is what America wants and needs. Is Mr. Gingrich a bit of a nut? Absolutely, but I haven’t met a soul on this Earth who isn’t. I’ve found those who are wrapped so tight as to not be believable, read Mitt Romney, and of course you. Americans have had it with a federal government that invests borrowed money in electric cars, and solar panels, without first providing for their power using something other then coal to power them, like nuclear power or natural gas, or a cost analysis of their production in relation to what is available now. Let’s forget the money laundering and the kick backs that are invariably occurring; even those must be real large to induce such economic insanity and misallocation of precious capital. One wonders if Bain Capital would invest in the electric car? The solar panel? Or an ultra modern nuclear power plant that will provide safe and reliable power for fifty plus years? I’m betting on the nuclear power plant, and so would they, because the money that they have to invest is real, and not the tool of a utopian vision of a pollution free existence where no one offends any one and a vibrant America slowly commits suicide.

$crew that. Newt Gingrich understands there is a moral imperative that must be protected in this nation, and the “Bret Stephens’s” of the world do not, people of his sort would rather fight a safe political fight, not risk a loss, and behave as though if we fail to see it their way we will lose. That’s nonsense. I know that no matter who the Republicans nominate most Americans will vote for, and I will do what I can to help them no matter who is selected at the convention even if it is Mr. Romney. I will do this not because I believe that any one man, or woman, holds some secret wisdom to save this nation from the economic effects of socialism run amok, I will do this because it must be done. We must change the sheets and the diapers of as many political offices as possible starting with the Presidency. If Mr. Stephen’s thinks he has some lock on such wisdom, I invite him to run for office, it’s a free country, at least it was, before we settled in to our comfortable chair and stuck the needle of socialism in our arm. Enough of this. Let’s get this nation rolling, growing, exploring, and flying again! OK. Now you ‘all can clap. Just so long as it does not offend Brian Williams or Bret Stephen's sensibilities.

:)

Respectfully,

Joe Doakes

Great post, joedoakes101!
Tonight's state of the union speech will be nothing more than a claptrap of leftist "social justice" and "economic justice" once again served up by a POTUS that we cannot trust. Please reference the word chiseler.

Right, paulmentzel. How can JB complain that "the GOP is burdened with a handful of shopworn candidates . . . . the Republicans are shopping little more than re-animated political flesh from the late Twentieth Century" when nothing is more "shopworn" than Obama's tired/discredited Marxist rhetoric, failed 1930s economic policies, and delusional energy and national security policies straight out of the 1970s. Thus, Obama makes even the "late Twentieth Century" look advanced; at least, supply side economics, a strong national defense/foreign policy, and a strong dollar made America the world's lone superpower. Yessiree, I'd vote for a "late Twentieth Century" zombie over The Bamster any day, especially if the zombie sounds and acts like Ronald Reagan.

Question: Why is it that JB usually sounds so reasonable on his own blog yet when he writes for The Daily Beast he seems to be channeling John Avlon?

Are these are the same professionals that said that Romney had it wrapped up about a week ago? If so, one should listen to what they now say and expect the exact opposite to happen.

"The professionals can see ...." Woops! Gotta stop you after 4 words. No, they can't.

And it's no wonder, nobody can see with their head sticking that far up their ass.

You've got the political "professionals" down, Lou, especially the GOP variety. Even the weatherguys and weathergirls on TV have a better batting average than these self-appointed geniuses who are also self-perpetuating geniuses. Latest case in point -- the Romney campaign is being run by retreads from the steamroller (LOL) Charlie Crist and John McCain campaigns. Need I say more? A related problem is that all the DC "professionals" who make up the GOP and Democrat Establishments agree on only one thing -- the actually historic 2010 revolt never happened so let's get back to business -- i.e., K Street business -- as usual. Disgusting and stupid!

Brad Sherman (D-CA), who happens to be my representative (and he's not too bad for a commie) made an interesting observation the other day. He said something like "We need to find out whether people want us to follow the message they sent us in 2010, or the one they sent us in 2008."

The erudite nature of JB and most of his guests, and the solemnity of the subject matter, leads one to forget from time to time that this is just show biz. It's just entertainment. The people appearing on the talk radio circuit have no better grasp on what's going on than does the local taxi driver or liquor store owner. Shame on us if we ever start believing that just because somebody gets paid to be a pundit, they're anything other than well-spoken entertainers.

"He said something like "We need to find out whether people want us to follow the message they sent us in 2010, or the one they sent us in 2008."

Well, first of all, they need to discover if the voters whose message the pols think they got sent the message they received. I still say the damn public has no idea what they were demanding in 2010. One the one hand, people who even marginally understand the problem know what needs to be done; on the other hand the public that sounded like they wanted it done simply has no idea how much they will be reduced in circumstance by the doing of what they demanded.

IOW the f'g public is clueless. When they get even a small taste of what they think they ordered, they run to Democrats to save them.

I am convinced that Romney's campaign is rife with moles. There are thousands of great tidbits that Rom can sink his teeth into if he had a good research team - like the "thousand days no budget" routine, solyndra, keystone pipeline, he can quote Margaret Thatcher about income gap - with that gem on utube. O is going to highlight people who lost jobs because of Bain. So, how about highlighting companies that were saved and interview people who benefited. How about interview some solyndra employees.

Romney should do what Paul Ryan does and take a few clear simple graphs. Demonstrate the economic malaise- educate the people-like Chris Christie.

"How about interview some solyndra employees."
Great idea. I doubt we can count on the campaign staff of the candidates to think like this is a fight. But it is! This POTUS is more dangerous than Woodrow Wilson. Not only does he believe that our inalienable rights are nonsense, it is obvious that he deeply believes that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are privileges to be governed by those who know best. I think I just called the President a Marxist.

The electric car needs to die . . .

January 25, 2012

Dear President and CEO of General Motors Mr. Obama,

As an old life guard I wonder sometimes if a liberal were drowning, and I through them a jug, half filled with water to save them, would they, right before they were about to take their last breath, would they look for the recycle logo on the jug or would they just be happy that I was saving their life with it? If the electric car was drowning I would fill it with Quikrete and sink it. At least then it could not hurt anyone and it would become provide a home to some fish. I know all of you up their have a fetish for this thing. You think that it is a panacea to our use of oil or to clean the air, or whatever, but it’s all a lie. From production to delivery, to use, to disposal, it is a bad idea. The only way ideas like this come to be is a result of forcing people to invest in failed ideas, and the takeover of companies like General Motors by the federal government.

In a sane world an entrepreneur would go to the public market or invest their own money and set out a few goals. Number one would be to build the lightest and coolest car possible. Number two would be to make a profit. Number three would be to sell as many of them as possible to the most people possible. Unfortunately, the car business has been decimated by over regulation. Good thing you people never got your hands on the cell phone industry. Apple Computer would still be making the Mac II. This mythical car company would hire people, build plants, and create a product that would get fantastic mileage. To do this it would use composites, high strength plastics and aluminum to reduce weight. The enemy in efficiency is weight and aerodynamics, not propulsion. In fact when one fixates on the that aspect they end up with too much weight and not enough bang for the buck; and like Elliot Spitzer Americans love a little extra bang for the buck:) In short, if any company took a four cylinder vehicle and used these light but strong materials a gasoline powered vehicle would do far better then a battery coal driven car from factory floor to disposal, but liberal auto executives like yourself don’t want the truth, they just want their fantasy, just like Elliot Spitzer, the problem here is all of us have to pay for it.

I drive cars that are big and powerful. I love Corvettes. You can’t beat them for the buck. I drive them less now because I can no longer afford the gasoline. The reason I can’t afford the gasoline is because the government is making it so the refineries and energy companies cannot make enough product to allow the market to clear at a price that would induce me to consume. That is why America is dieing with you as President, that is also why, President Carter failed so miserably too, you are trying to deliver the same medicine to a patient that just wants to escape the hospital. President Reagan provided that escape, and one day President Gingrich or President Romney or some other fellow will do the same. Or you could continue to run this nation, and General Motors, for that matter into the ground.

Thankfully, we get a say in that, and on November 6, 2012, we will be voting for the other guy.

Respectfully,

Joe Doakes

Tell Mr. Stephens I do not think he is a "jerk" I just think that he is wrong.

But, does the public really run back to the Democrats? Or does the media megaphone simply blare over and over that the public is running back to the Democrats, and the Republicans get scared and believe it?

Anyway, I think Sherman's question will be answered in 2012. And in a sense, I'm glad Obama is taking the hard socialist line that he is. It will make it harder for the results of the 2012 election to be spun to his advantage, than if he were to take a more centrist tack.

BTW, that SOTU was 100% stumping. The 30% tax has no chance of passing a Republican House in 2012. So, Obama's already playing for 2013. Going to be a long 2012.

EXCEPT THAT

with the SCOTUS making excellent decisions like the unaminous upholding of the Fourth Amendment in re: the illegal use of GPS surveillance, there's reason to hope they may overturn ObamaCare. And that would make it a very, very pleasant 2012 indeed.

"But, does the public really run back to the Democrats?"

Look at Wisconsin. Look at Ohio. Look at what portends for the Congressional Republican newbees elected from Democratic districts. Look at France, if you'll pardon the reference.

It's probably about 53% "throw those bums out and elect the other bums," and 47% "the austerity message is too scary for me; gimme my state-supported security blanket back; somebody else can deal with the unpleasantness."

Americans either don't want to hear the message or they think killing the messengers is going to change the message.

"Going to be a long 2012."

It's been a long 2012 since 4 Nov 2008. Obama has NEVER been about governing. He didn't even try. He knows only how to campaign, and if it werent for Plouffe and Axelrod, he wouldn't do that very well.

"...if it werent for Plouffe and Axelrod, he wouldn't do that very well."

Saw a 'birther' lawsuit in which the judge subpoenaed Obama to appear. [I know, no chance in hell]. When asked for comment, the WH suggested that questions be submitted to the re-elect committee.
