Monday 5 October 2020 / Hour 1, Block C:  Brandon Weichert, @WeTheBrandon, author, Winning Space, How America Remains a Superpower; and Gordon Chang, Daily Beast, in re:  Huawei will throw all it can to maintain access to the chips it wants in order to sell iPhones.   Sony.  US needs to get our own indigenous chip mfr back in our own country. This is an opportunity for us to rebuild out own mfrg capacity.  Huawei sounds as though it feels like a wounded capitalist instead of state security, which it is. I think Pres Trump will [hold fast].  Samsung: wants 5G.  We should welcome other parties to get involved, but remember that China is way ahead of everyone else right now. Virtual networks/plug and play: China got in at the ground level; China got the hardware first, have a significant hand to play right now. Peter Thiel talks of this:  Software can make you a lot of money, but it’s not all software all the time. We're at a significant disadvantage right now. Biden says he’s willing to confront China on this; but his record suggests not. 
Monday 5 October 2020 / Hour 1, Block D:  Cleo Paskal, @CleoPaskal, non-resident senior Fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, and Gordon Chang, Daily Beast, in re: Defense Security Intell Agency has shown how [intrusive] China is,  Huawei: incredibly corrosive once its in. China has a predilection for renaming stuff so it can sneak in. Samsung is right under the line.    South Korean state is compromised, as are its voting machines.  Moon Jae-in has been leaning on Samsung to provide technology to China.  Democracies are trying to create 5G-safe network; need to protect oneself from how you cast your ballot to how you [log in].  India is ding to China what China does to the rest of the world: not saying, “we’re freezing you out,” but doing it anyway.  . . . Himalayas as a soft target; India doesn't want to be that.  Trying to position themselves as harder, and the public is 100% with them. Huawei is sidelined in India.

Monday 5 October 2020 / Hour 2, Block A:   John Fund, @johnfund, NRO, in re: Pelosi said Trump shouldn’t be politicizing his flu recovery.  I though the Biden campaign has based everything on the virus: the president failed at managing the flu. The Biden campaign runs negative ads, while Pelosi is “the hatchet woman,” as political parlance has it.  . . .  Biden is not a strong campaigner; everyone around him wants a job in the Biden administration. The media will largely give him a pass.
Monday 5 October 2020 / Hour 2, Block B:   David M Drucker, @DavidMDrucker , Washington Examiner, in re:  GOP strategists.  Gloom settles upon them anent down-ticket, the  candidates other than the president. Concern that in the public consciousness Covid becomes an even more immediate a topic; if the president is vulnerable, maybe we all are.  “Brace for impact,” and “32 days to live.”    RNC has a method to elect a new presidential nominee if necessary.   When we vote, we vote for electors in the Electoral College.
Monday 5 October 2020 / Hour 2, Block C:  Elin Suleymanov,  @ElinSuleymanov, @azembassyus, ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Washington; and Brenda Shaffer: @ProfBShaffer  @FDD; Georgetownin re:   Rocket attack launched by Armenians against Azerbaijan’s second-largest city, Ganja.  A farming town; long ago, was home to Europeans, who left  German and French architecture.   A rocket hit the house of a 77-year-old woman, an ethnic Armenian, in Ganja.  It's a very sad situation. A major escalation.  They expose their own civilians. The desperate behavior of a terrorist government; “We’ll make sure that your children can't even find Ganja.” It's a threat not only to the economy of Azerbaijan, but to the dvpt of Europe, as Ganja sends natural gas all the way to Italy and thence to Western Europe. This is a modern capitalist state; they don't have antimissile batteries to protect the oil fields or pipelines. Are there peace talks? Expect to have representatives meet soon, but we need substantive discussion after thirty years of this.

Monday 5 October 2020 / Hour 3, Block A:  Andrew C McCarthy, @AndrewCMcCarthy, Ball of Collusion; and Thaddeus McCotter, @ThadMcCotter, American Greatness, in re: Biden said, “Antifa isn't an organization; it's an idea.”  What does this mean?  Biden wants to frame all the violence of the last months as the work of rigt-wingers; this is preposterous as it's clear that it's from left-wing activists.   Wray called it an “ideology,” which Biden seized on as a substantive distortion. Similarly, Obama never wanted to grapple with the [truth] of al Qaeda, and claimed it had destroyed radical Islam.  Contrary to Biden’s characterization . . .   signals a policy shift back to “countering violent extremism,” forbidding investigators to look at the drivers of terrorism.  Gov of Michigan ruled to have exceeded her powers in lockdowns.   Her emergency orders were struck down back to April by six of the seven judges of the State Supreme Court.

They got unlucky because ef the virus, making it difficult to travel to interview witnesses. If Biden wins and Durham returns charges, Biden couldn’t entirely ignore them, but don’t expect to see [much].  Biden is implicated in some of the decision-making

Why is Sudan attractive? –It needs a lot, and is in conflict with Ethiopia and Egypt; but it’s important to have a follow-up country.  Developments with Russians’ increasing armaments to Iran:  new Basiji patrols in Khusestan and elsewhere; 27 Nov is navy day in Iran, will show minesweeper and other weaponry. Moving from subsonic to supersonic. SAMs and surface-to-surface missiles.   An ICBM is coming that will be able to hit the US. Lebanese missile factory: PGMs, under Iran, Manager of site is known. Deniability is gone.  . . .  Biden says he’ll restore the Iran deal.  Erbil, capital of Kurdistan; missiles fired at the Erbil Intl Airport (where US forces are based in northern Iraq); escalation.

Hour Four
Monday 5 October 2020 / Hour 4, Block A:  Aaron Klein, @AaronKleinShow; in re:  he immediate threat is coronavirus on a national scale, but it's getting better.  Lockdown began about two weeks ago; had to become a full lockdown a week ago as the [statistics] became worse.  Expect to see man more nations going in to lockdown—Spain, France, the UK; Australia, New Zealand, and nine zip codes in New York.   Late December, when the first reports of an epidemic coming out of China: Netanyahu saw it and immediately jumped  up; was among the first to recognize a global threat. Israel’s economy:  OECD says it’s among those faring the best under the global pandemic.  Having the lockdown during Jewish holidays helped minimize the effects.
Monday 5 October 2020 / Hour 4, Block B:  Lorenzo Fiori: Direttore Generale Ansaldo Fondazione; in re: Campagna, in southern Italy: a reversal of fortune because of the virus.  Initially, the virus was concentrated in the north, because its industrial orientation.   Saint Francis.   In Rome, may people wearing a mask.  Police stop those who don't: fine of up to €400.
