JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW

Co-Hosts:  Mary Kissel, Wall Street Journal editorial board; Malcolm Hoenlein, Conference of Presidents

Thursday 905P Eastern Time:  Congressman Devin Nunes (CA-18), in re: JBatchelor:  Best info currently is that the ambassador was lured to Benghazi and ambushed.

DN: I've never before seen the PM of Israel scold the president of the US. Bad vibes in general in these relations. I, like everyone else, am awaiting news from Cairo tomorrow where there may be a demo of a million people, State Dept reused to come and brief the House Intelligence Committee.  Perhaps a first in history. Unacceptable, outrageous, infuriating, to both parties.  Tomorrow, I think the CIA will come in and brief us.

Thursday 920P Eastern Time:  Reza Kahlili, A Time to Betray, in re: my information is that Iran is actively involved in the demonstrations and Libyan turmoil. Iran has been working with the Muslim Brotherhood since its 1979 revolution; hope to bring Egypt into the side of radical Islam. If they succeed in replicating the events of their revolution, that would be a major success for them.   The proxy war is between Iran and Saudi Arabia. US has been leaving a regional void that's quite dangerous and emboldens them.  An intell agent in Europe says, "Expect Assad to prevail."  Teheran, Riyadh, Ankara, Cairo as leaders of the intended New Caliphate; intell in these parts works on pretext.  [Reza once prevented Iran fro burning down Saudi Arabia.]

Thursday 935P Eastern Time:  John Bolton, AEI & author, Surrender Is Not an Option, in re:  We're a couple of steps away from the edge of the abyss in the Middle East, and some of the blame must be on this Administration  [carelessness in security and intell]  I very much have  in mind 1979 and he many attacks on US facilities.  The president doesn't seem to know what’s going on well. Morsi at General Assembly . MH: On Tuesday we were warned that there'd be an attack on the Cairo embassy and we did nothing to protect it, just sent a lot of American  home. We keep hearing in the US that the Muslim Brotherhood is  a "moderate organization" – nothing could be further from the truth. JBatchelor: A military operation against the US ambassador in Libya; the govt there knows the names and addresses.  JBolton: This cd spread very widely – and not jut to American personnel, we have thousands of Americans in many kids of organizations. Yemen also didn’t live up to its basic obligation to protect our citizens; State staff say that this Administration has not mentioned that to the various governments, and that is just a sign of this Administration's weakness. Ban Ki-moon's attendance in Teheran for he Non-Aligned Movement was the worst mistake of his career. The attendance of many other govts shows why all our sanctions efforts are doomed to failure.  JBatchelor: State refused to brief Congress.  JBolton: A continuation of the last three years – many committees simply get no answer from the Obama Administration, Congress has a legitimate oversight role; one may conclude that Obama is worried about what a briefing would show.  Very troubling.

Thursday 950P Eastern Time: McKay Coppins, BuzzFeed, and Salena Zito, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, in re:

Thursday 1005P (705P Pacific Time):  Malcolm Hoenlein, in re: the film that was purported to have started the chaos, and did not.  IAEA.  Ian is systematically destroying the entire site of Parchin.  Arrest of persons in Mexico.   Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, a 55-yr-old rogue Copt, has a long yellow sheet [of arrests] and of working with extreme Christian groups long agitating vs Islam; all anyone's seen is thee trailer. The demos were planned two weeks I advance , so the film was unrelated to the genesis of the chaos.  An Egyptian paper wrote that Egypt warned Americans of attacks against the embassy – and the US did naught but evacuate a few workers.  The video is a lie: a fraudster's activity to raise money and perhaps abscond with it. His family is Coptic and they have reason to be terrified of an incipient pogrom.  Every provocation is used to move toward obliterating all religious minorities in the Middle East – Ismailists, Maronites, Copts, Jews, everyone.   Three people arrested Mexico and turned over to the US: one is one the most-wanted al Qaeda operatives – continuing cross-border activity meriting much attention and concern.

The senior US diplomat Robert Wood on Sept. 13 accused Iran of demolishing a facility at the Parchin military site, which UN nuclear inspectors wanted to visit during their investigation into Iran's suspected weapons research, Reuters reported. Wood told the International Atomic Energy Agency that Iran has taken measures that appear consistent with efforts to remove evidence from the site. While a nuclear program has given Iran political leverage, actually acquiring nuclear weapons would increase the risk of military action against Iran.

..  ..  ..

"Law enforcement has identified Nakoula Basseley Nakoula as the man behind Innocence of Muslims, the anti-Islamic movie . . . " [that may not really exist, since all anyone can point to so far is trailer, possibly intended to be used to raise funds].

Thursday 1020P (720P Pacific Time): Jonathan D. Sarna, Brandeis University, and author, American Judaism: A History, in re: Jewish history in America, esp Gen Grant's General Order No. 11, very anti-Jewish, in December 1862 banned Jews from doing commerce with the Northern Army – in fact, removed all Jews out of his war zone - at the beginning of the campaign against Vicksburg.  Grant later underwent a complete reversal and became extremely pro-Jewish.  Grant was deeply worried about smuggling, of which there was a plenitude, but he happened to notice on the Jews who were doing it. He'd watched this for months, but was impelled to move when his father visited him with a scheme to make pots of money by getting special permission for a Jewish associate to get rich bldg ships for the Union army.  There were abt 7,000 Jews fighting in the ranks. Many expelled from Paducah , Kentucky, and moved north to Cincinnati, Ohio.  Note hat even though the order were issued, most people did nothing, perhaps because Grant's troops were attacked at Holly Springs so the order couldn't be delivered. Memphis held a large Jewish community hen; eleven days after issuance, it reached Paducah, where abt 30 were thrown out One fellow, Caesar Caskill, was mad as anything, so he sent  a telegram to the president, took multiple trains to Washington, visited a Congressman who ushered him in to the White House on a Saturday night. Lincoln  hears of Gen Order No 1 for the first time and reverses it: he didn't like to hear of  "a whole class of people condemned because of a few sinners."

Thursday 1035P (735P Pacific Time): Dr. Olli Heinonen, Harvard Belfer Center senior fellow, in re: Iranian nuclear development. Why is Iran dismantling the Parchin military site? It’s a bit of déjà vu – makes the IAEA's job much, much more difficult.  The class of diplomats called "cautious politicians."  What would an incautious politician say in response to Iran?  OH: We don’t really know what's there. If you don’t know what you need to eliminate, you may make a great error.  Mohsen Farizadeh, Persian bombmaker, has major knowledge, was a leader for more than a decade, has recently been brought back into Iranian nuclear bomb mfr.  A Q Khan, now apparently mostly retired for a decade, may not be the most urgent issue. Nuclear submarines; they have 200 kg of enriched uranium, 'way over what's needed for a research reactor. My personal estimate is that Iran will have all it needs to create a nuclear bomb in the summer of 2013.

Thursday 1050P (750P Pacific Time): Malcolm Hoenlein, in re: world capitals threatened by Islamist jihadists in the next hours: many of the societies are fragile, the ruler is not stable. Yemen is a large and troubled society divided once between USSR and US, but recently between elements of al Qaeda and the West, as well as betw Shia and Sunni, between the previous President Salah and gangs, and riven by many other factors.  Yemen is esp fragile because it depends deeply on US aid. Will Yemen be the first to fall? Al Qaeda has moved in strongly. We can anticipate chaos across the region tomorrow morning.  They know the film was a fraud, yet they'll ride this horse as long as they can.  Sanaa is not secure, divided into the Republican Guard & _______; money from Saudis, US, others. Demos: US consulates across the Mahgreb, esp.  Morsi, just like the dead Arafat buried in a parking lot, condemns the protests in English and applauds them in Arabic.  Zawahiri's brother was a central figure in planning the riots.  Obama raised the possibility that Egypt is not an ally, while Victoria Nuland at State said it is.  Hamas today was given right to open an embassy in Cairo.

Thursday 1105P (805P Pacific Time): Lt.-Col. (ret.) Mickey Segall, IDF, in re: the assassination of Amb Stevens in Benghazi works well for Iran and al Qaeda throughout the Middle East; the Arab Spring is in fact an Islamic Winter, which serves Iran very well.  Benghazi San'aa, Ciro, sut Teheran well.  The Quds Force planned to assassinate the Saudi ambassador on American soil. It plays a dominant role on Syrian soil, now and in the past; Syria is a key venue. "Syria is the golden llnk in the resistance-to-Israel chain."  HizbAllah is the first line of defense; in the event of a nuclear attack, Hizb and maybe Hamas would be the first to attack.  Not only Syria: Russia and China are playing into Syrian and Iranian hands.  Materiel to Syria through Iraqi air space, also communication gear; Quds advisors are throughout.  US embassy in Cairo and consulate in Alexandria are under heavy threat today, ostensibly de to a video that turns out probably not to exist. Provocation.

Thursday 1120P (820P Pacific Time): Malcolm Hoenlein, in re: Serious concern to see how Morsi will exculpate himself from bogus statements. This is the fourth time that attacks on the US embassy have occurred while the police stood by and did nothing.  Syrians incr depend on heavy weapons: from 220KK army to 100K. Diversion of world attention enables Assad to carry out horrendous attacks. Doctors say half the people they treat are not Syrian, but are foreign Islamists. Young Frenchmen say they were inspired by the murder of Marah, the Jewish Frenchman.  NATO and the US and the allies brought in the al Qaedist to fight against Gadhaffi they now are the executors of the attacks vs the US. Identical to the insanity of the Americans' empowering a heavy-duty crew in Afghanistan to fight the USSR – a crew that morphed into al Qaeda.  The Cairo demonstration are not obviously a danger to the Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty because Morsi wants US money, but he'll keep it hot for his domestic constituency.

Thursday 1135P (835P Pacific Time):  Robert Zimmeman, behindtheblack, in re:

Thursday 1150P (850P Pacific Time):  Gordon Chang, Forbes.com, in re: China sends naval fore to Diaoyutai/Senkakus; Beijing Evening News says it's time to "use the big guns" - nuclear weapons - to claim the rock islands before the US gets involved.  This seems to mean that China should nuke Japan.   US massive QE3 wll probably have the fate of QE2 - ain't much; and we can expect QE7 and QE8. China sits headless: Xi Jinping  not seen since 1 Sept. Scramble for power i Xi's absence.  He likely had a stroke that limits his ability to communicate. Knives out for power within three weeks or so if he can't take the top job. Currently no Plan B; Party Congress supposed to be in te third week of October, but that sure doesn't look probable, since it'd take months to figure out a new line-up.  FT reported condolences by Xi for a dead Party member - but no photo.  Bell's Palsy?  disfiguring stroke?
