Air Date:
November 05, 2020

JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW
Colleagues: Sebastian Gorka, America First radio and Fox; and Malcolm Hoenlein, Conference of Presidents

Hour One
Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 1, Block A: Victor Davis Hanson: @VDHanson; Hoover Institution, and The Case for Trump, in re:  The Senate will stay GOP, and in the House Mrs Pelosi will have reduced power. If Biden wins: Harris will tell Biden, We want the following orders (stop fracking, no oil drilling on federal lands, etc.).  Biden has no constituency. Even Schumer and Pelosi will barely be with him. Biden said he’d “keep us all safe.”  National mandate for masks? Will he return to a basement? If he’s sworn in, we’ll be told that the Chinese flu is no longer dangerous.  In a nanosecond, big tech & media will say that it’s time to return to regular economic activity.  This is the biggest scandal in American history:  calling the winner prematurely, suppressing the vote; it's such a bitter climate that it’s hard to see how the Republicans will work with him.
China: Xi is delighted at the prospect of a Biden presidency. Before Trump leaves office, will he appoint a special prosecutor to look at Hunter Biden and his family? Probably yes.  And that’ll reveal a lot of Chinese cash going to Biden’s brother and Biden’s son.  The Durham investigation?  In late December or early January there’ll be indictments.    <https://twitter.com/VDHanson>

Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 1, Block B:   Victor Davis Hanson: @VDHanson; Hoover Institution, and The Case for Trump, in re:  Media.  For months, they all said there was an overwhelming advantage for Mr Biden.  Citizenship depends on free and fair voting. If you wanted to vote for a candidate and were told again and again that your candidate didn’t have a chance—would you donate? knock on doors?  Later, suddenly thousands of ballots appeared; in Wisconsin, 89 % of the population was said to have voted—impossible.   Need to cease using mail-in ballots except those that arrive days before the election.  Joy Read said, “Uncle Thomas.”  That was horrible.

Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 1, Block C: Conrad Black, @ConradMBlack, publisher, littérateur, commentator; the National Post; in re:   The Unity Program of Bernie Sanders and adopted by Biden: far to the left of where American voters are.  The wild and wooly ultra-left Democratic program is not accepted, by the people or the Supreme Court. He’s faced all four directions on almost any issue.   Mr Biden defamed the president with talk of race.  He resorts to defamatory attacks when he thinks the political wind favors it.  All America’s allies prefer an American president who’s amiable and lets them pick the American pocket, at least a little bit. Standing up to China: Canada and the US both struggle with this; Biden will not stand up to China very much, but he’ll be careful of looking soft on China.   <https://twitter.com/ConradMBlack
Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 1, Block D: Brett Arends: @BrettArends; @Marketwatch ROI column; in re: Why is the market roaring? Jeff Bezos earned anther $2.5 billion from Amazon today. Markets are betting that Biden will be president, but he’ll have to work with a GOP Senate, so we don’t have to worry about the crazy people in the Democratic party.  The Congressional vote is what drove this—no extreme wing in either party claimed control. If the markets thought there’d be no more stimulus, might not be as good.  Note that the small caps are doing well.  . . . The Sturm Ruger Metric:  guns stocks: if we had a Democratic sweep, conservatives wd rush out and buy guns; if Trump won and there were riots, conservatives wd rush out and buy guns.

Hour Two
Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 2, Block A:  Sebastian Gorka, @SebGorka, America First radio, in re:  launched, judges issuing writs—despite four years of the president being called racist and xenophobic, he received four million more votes than in 2016, and received the most Black votes sine Eisenhower.   . . . At 9:30 PM Philadelphia stops counting and goes to bed? The presidency is not a very strong office; when one doesn't hold the Senate nor much power in the House . . .  Joe Biden is the antithesis of the person you'd expect to see exploiting the power of the president; perhaps the weakest president in our history.
Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 2, Block B:  Sebastian Gorka, @SebGorka, America First radio, in re:  Foreign policy: how do our European allies see a possible return of Trump to White House?  Pragmatists will see through the ideological haze; for the standard-bearers of a globalizing elite, they’ll hate him for petty style reasons. China/adversary: displeased to see Trump returned.   By the end of a second administration, we’d see the CCP regime potentially on its knees.
A President Biden in China? Evidence of Hunter Biden making millions from Ukraine and China
Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 2, Block C:  Veronique de Rugy, @veroderugy, Mercatus Center, in re:  Both Biden and Trump are protectionist. Biden’s plan concerning the federal debt: Only to increase it.  Trump on immigration: has he inhibited it?  Yes, but also his rhetoric has put off a lot of people; it’s not policy, but his governing style is problematic.   “Government is a broker in pillage, and every election is a sort of advance auction on stolen goods.” —H L Mencken
Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 2, Block D: Mary O’Grady: @MaryAnastasiaOG; WSJ editorial board; The Americas column; in re: Biden in South America? Troubling—comfortable with the narcotraffickers FARC. Cuba?  Do business with the military dictatorship.  Obama and Biden always ready to  prop up dictatorships Caracas is home to confabs with Iranian mullahs, Hezbollah, and the like.  Biden was a big defender of [antidemocratic] regimes; and once they get in, they don't leave.

Hour Three
Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 3, Block A: Mark Dubowitz (@mdubowitz), and Malcolm Hoenlein, @conf_of_pres, Conference of President, in re: US-Iran policy; Iran-Latin America; U.S.-Israel Common Defense Authorization Act.
If Biden wins? Would revert to JCPOA: Buying into the 2015 assumptions.  The Obama strategy was to open the door in Latin America to terrorist networks.
Trump: the twelve parameters, incl: comprehensive agreement, regional behavior, terrorism, hostages, no nuclear infrastructure.
Mark Dubowitz is the chief executive of FDD, a Washington, D.C.-based nonpartisan policy institute. Mark is an expert on Iran’s nuclear program and global threat network, and is widely recognized as one of the key influencers in shaping policies to counter the threats from the regime in Iran. He also contributes to FDD’s China Program, drawing on his academic background in Chinese studies and his private sector work in the Indo-Pacific.

Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 3, Block B:  Benjamin Weinthal (@BenWeinthal), and Malcolm Hoenlein, @conf_of_pres, Conference of President, in re:  Jeremy Corbyn; European terrorist attacks;  deradicalization programs.
Jeremy Corbyn is gone:  a leader of a major party that claimed to be against racism, yet he subscribed fully to anti-Semitism and was close with Hezbollah. . .  . Will the Austrian security services reform themselves? Currently are depending on the FBI. Europeans are way behind in developing a sophisticated counterterrorist operation.  Terrorists released days after arrest. “Deradicalization programs” ?  This terrorist had gone through such a program and hoodwinked the authorities, was released, and immediately went back to work.  Sceptical of Macron’s rhetoric: he’s been placating Shi’a terrorists, esp Hezbollah.  Turkey. Business as usual with Germany which holds Turkey to be an important trade partner.
Benjamin Weinthal is a research Fellow at FDD. A widely published journalist based in Berlin, he serves as FDD’s eyes and ears in Europe. Benjamin’s investigative reporting has uncovered valuable information on Iran’s energy links to European firms and on Hamas’s and Hezbollah’s terror-finance operations in Europe. He has also examined the growth of the Islamic State in Europe, growing anti-Semitism on the continent, and neo-Nazism.

Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 3, Block C: Amb. Kanji Yamanouchi (@JapanCons_NY) , and Malcolm Hoenlein, @conf_of_pres, Conference of President,
in re:   Japan-Israel relations, US-Japan-Australia-India relations (Quad cooperation); the visa issued by Mr. Tatekawa, former Ambassador to the Soviet Union during WWII.
The four counties of the Quad share a vision of a free, open Indo-Pacific, with democracy and a market economy.   He new Japanese PM has made it clear that he’ll continue the policies of PM Abe. The coming joint manoeuvers ensure a closer mode of [interoperations].  About 100 Japanese companies have invested in Israel.   Amb Tatekawa, in the USSR, was a man of principle who listened to his conscience, so he issued a visa to a Jewish woman, counter to instructions from Tokyo, and saved  her life.  The delayed Japanese Olympics; the dream delayed by the pandemic, but will present them in July 2021.  How does China view Quad development in light of its Wolf Warrior strategy?  A free and open Pacific, with rule of law and freedom of religion . . .
Kanji Yamanouchi was appointed Ambassador and Consul General of Japan in New York in September of 2018. Since his arrival in New York a month later, the Ambassador has committed himself to utilizing his years of experience to craft a new chapter in U.S.-Japan relations that will fit the economic and political demands of the 21st century, as well as the nation each has become.

Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 3D: Malcolm Hoenlein, @conf_of_pres, Conference of President, in re: Iranian majlis passed a bill requiring Iran to produce nuclear material  and citizens to burn US and Israeli flags at home. Iran now is kidnapping dissidents from European dragging them to Iran and imprisoning them, at best.  Financial institutions complicit.

Hour Four
Thursday 5 November 2020  / Hour 4, Block A:  The Lockhart Plot: Love, Betrayal, Assassination and Counter-Revolution in Lenin's Russia, by Jonathan Schneer
During the spring and summer of 1918, with World War I still undecided, British, French and American agents in Russia developed a breathtakingly audacious plan. Led by Robert Hamilton Bruce Lockhart, a dashing, cynical, urbane 30-year-old Scot, they conspired to overthrow Lenin's newly established Bolshevik regime, and to install one that would continue the war against Germany on the Eastern Front. Lockhart's confidante and chief support, with whom he engaged in a passionate love affair, was the mysterious, alluring Moura von Benkendorff, wife of a former aide-de-camp to the Tsar.
The plotters' chief opponent was “Iron Felix” Dzerzhinsky. He led the Cheka, the “Sword and Shield” of the Russian Revolution and forerunner of the KGB. Dzerzhinsky loved humanity—in the abstract. He believed socialism represented humanity's best hope. To preserve and protect it he would unleash unbounded terror.
Revolutionary Russia provided the setting for the ensuing contest. In the back streets of Petrograd and Moscow, in rough gypsy cabarets, in glittering nightclubs, in cells beneath the Cheka's Lubianka prison, the protagonists engaged in a deadly game of wits for the highest possible stakes—not merely life and death, but the outcome of a world war and the nature of Russia's post-war regime.
Confident of success, the conspirators set the date for an uprising, September 8, 1918, but the Cheka had penetrated their organization and pounced just beforehand. The Lockhart Plot was a turning point in world history, except it failed to turn. At a time when Russian meddling in British and American politics now sounds warning bells, however, we may sense its reverberations and realize that it is still relevant.
