Thursday 7 December 2017  / Hour 2, Block A:    Jonathan Schanzer, senior VP, FDD, in re:  Today’s US declaration of recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital without actually moving the US embassy; widespread Arab and Muslim objection, but some Arabs are “pumping the brakes.”  Tomorrow (Friday), jummah prayers; we’ll then hear how much clerics will fan the flames.  Possible ISIS or al Q statements to come.  . . .  Fear of Palestinians’s erupting in yet another intifadah has kept common sense at bay. Czech Republic provided initial planes for Israel’s air force and now will recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Meanwhile, State Dept refuses to accept having Jerusalem as, in effect, part of Israel: if you were born there, State in its surpassing wisdom will allow, “Jerusalem” listed as your birthplace on your passport but not not “Jerusalem, Israel.”   Geniuses.
Thursday 7 December 2017  / Hour 2, Block B:  Jeff Bliss, Pacific Watch, in re the fires of LA. Today’s helo ride from Long Beach to Catalina Island. New fire in OC and in other southern California counties.  Canyons on fire up and down the southern portions of the state.  Sheets of flame on both sides of the freeway as hundreds of thousands of drivers were trying to pass back and forth. Fires create their own windstorms.  Getty Museum built especially: defensible space, ergo, not much vegetation near the bldg.  Air conditioning can be reversed? 
Ventra Co. N of LA: wind is returning this evening.  Ojai, Montecito, Sta Barbara.  Residents are obliged to have go-bags – fire, earthquake, who knows what?

Snooping without probable cause runs against the Fourth Amendment.  It's not info collection but its unauthorized use that troubles me. “Reasonable suspicion.” US vs Miller, 1976.  Now all my info is parked in a cloud; can govt get a warrant for that?  ---if you give someone info for safekeeping, to obtain it the govt must make the same case as to you. Locational info shd be used . . .

Demand that Coloradans celebrate Donald Trump?  “If you don’t, I’ll feel dehumanized.” “Tough.”  
Demanded that the baker be re-educated –shades of Mao Tse-tung.

His finding was probably countermanded by Muller’s aggressive team.   . . .   
Thursday 7 December 2017  / Hour 3, Block B:   Jason Szep, Reuters; in re: Tasers on inmates.  Cody Franklin to a large cell in Franklin (?) Co jail; fracas; was ordered to cease, refused to obey; was tased  - dry-stunned - repeatedly and died.  UN Special Rapporteur on Torture is asking for criminal charges.  
Thursday 7 December 2017  / Hour 3, Block C: David Ignatius, Washington Post columnist and author, in re: The Quantum Spy.   Thriller – a new Great Game, or Cold War, between US (CIA) and China.  Chinese Ministry of State Security, tradecraft, recruitments, world intrigue.  China’s effort to dominate the high ground of technology.  Moles.  Quantum computing: think of architecture of a standard computer __ zero or  one (binary)) In a quantum computer, each cubit is simultaneously zero or one; vast scale.  Decohere in nanoseconds unless stabilized at 11 milli-Kelvins temperature.  Super-low temp.  Encryption is basically multiplying prime numbers together so it’d take thousands of years to decrypt; but quantum computers can do it in seconds. Chinese are our principal rival.
