JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW
Co-host: Mary Kissel, Wall Street Journal

Hour One
Thursday 9 August 2018 / Hour 1, Block A: Mary Kissel, WSJ, in re:  Tariffs.  American mfr uses [grange] fabric from China to make terrycloth products; tariff of 10% will render him noncompetitive, thereby losing jobs. On August 1, it went up to 25%.   Gary Cohn opposed tariffs; Peter Navarro favors them. China’s continuing, endless mantra of foreign oppression – from the early Twentieth Century – has become an excuse for economic failure. Trump has identified the right problem(s) with China’s conduct; the remaining question is how best to respond.
Thursday 9 August 2018 / Hour 1, Block B: Mary Kissel, WSJ, in re:
Thursday 9 August 2018 / Hour 1, Block C: Victor Davis Hanson, Hoover, in re: The provenance of the notorious dossier.   The many names that have surfaced [oozed out] in connection with it.  We’ve never before had a press that was complicit in a major national scandal.  . . .  The only way I can see Mueller ceasing is . . .  Mueller has a sterling reputation, but when Page and Strzok were let go, he staggered their dismissals as though the two were unconnected; this is disturbing.  Eighty-eight days to midterms.  We can't have confidence that the press will expose wrongdoings.  Bruce Orr, illegally conveying discredited info from an FBI source while not disclosing that his wife was [much involved].    Septimius Severus, Roman emperor told his two sons: “Love one another, be good to the army, and hate everyone else.”  This was the beginning of [chaos]  in the Roman empire.  That phrase is now the watchword in Washington.  Dems think GOP will always fight by Marquis of Queensbury rules, while they, themselves, fight all-out. So sanctimonious that they think that when this is over no one would dare to replicate their ways.
Thursday 9 August 2018 / Hour 1, Block D: Debra Saunders, the Las Vegas Review-Journal., in re: Manafort trial. Two bad guys: Rick Gates and Paul Manafort. Gates was convincing in saying that he moved about $70 mil from Ukraine over a decade; when the money ran out, they decided to obtain liar loans.  Gates says he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from Manafort; the Feds say millions.  Evidence that Manafort knew of this.  Manafort is glaring at Gates.  Manafort worked for Yanakovich in Ukraine; as soon as he left power the river of money to Manafort Inc ceased. Had zero clients for about two years, then Trump entered deus ex machina and some money came in again  . . .

Hour Two
Thursday 9 August 2018 / Hour 2, Block A:  Sebastian Gorka, Fox News national security strategist & author, Why We Fight; in re: Russia threatens last Georgia join NATO.   Putin: “If Georgia tries to join NATO, the conflict will be horrible.”  Mil exercises in Georgia right now (Azerbaijanis are participating).  Seb: Old habits die hard. Tenth anniversary of the Russian invasion of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.  . . . Europeans need to wake up. Illustrates the difference between NATOO nations and the Warsaw Pact. In the latter, they did what Moscow instructed; NATO is an alliance of free nations.  These words cone from a country that recently invaded one of its neighbors [Ukraine]; we need  to break that habit.   Coming: the Space Force. Six US flags now flying on the Moon; no other nation’s flag is there.
Thursday 9 August 2018 / Hour 2, Block B:  Sebastian Gorka, Fox News national security strategist & author, Why We Fight; in re:  John Bolton said that DPRK was cheating; has not yet taken effective steps to denuclearize.  . . . “The speed of Trump.”  . . . I Iran, intl relations theory breaks down when up against the theology of the Twelvers.  Not clear that Iran’s leaders appreciate how different this American president is from previous.
