Cohen, NYU & Princeton professor Emeritus; American Committee for East-West Accord; author: Soviet Fates and Lost Alternatives: From Stalinism to the New Cold War, & The Victims Return: Survivors of the Gulag after Stalin;  in re:   Astounding:  NATO has pushed up against Russian borders and now complains loudly that an internal/domestic military exercise is nervy because it’s occurring “on NATO borders.”   This is irrational.

Tuesday 12 September 2017 / Hour 2, Block D:  Stephen F. Cohen, NYU & Princeton professor Emeritus; American Committee for East-West Accord; author: Soviet Fates and Lost Alternatives: From Stalinism to the New Cold War, & The Victims Return: Survivors of the Gulag after Stalin; in re:   Vladivostok meeting works on a bunch of proposals, incl the Japan-South Korea-North Korea-Russia-Europe transport road, and replacing the dollar as the global currency.  Fastest-growing segment of Russian population is Muslims, and they have a higher birthrate than do the Slavs.  Note that the second-favorite country where emigres aim is Russia: first is USA, second is Russia.   The persons likely to succeed Putin all are less-favorable toward the West than is Putin. Military is first-rate; its sciences are excellent; even the UN veto – all this may shift eastward and in effect leave European/Western civilization; rather, the talents and resources of Russia might redound to the benefit of China, Iran, and others not amiable to the US.

Hour Three
Tuesday 12 September 2017 / Hour 3, Block A:  Rita Cosby, WABC Radio, in re:  New York City’s primaries. Pubs and Politics at _______ in 48 hours on Thursday : three leading challengers to Mayor DeBlasio – Nicole Malliotakis, Sal Albanese, and Bo Dietl.  Also Sheriff Clark of Wisconsin, and an SNL star, and a bunch of others. Bill DeBlasio, New York City mayor, has handily won today’s primaries. However, he craves to be American president. The Dems at present offer only Bernie Sanders, Jo Biden, Elizabeth Warren and the 82-year-old Jerry Brown.  Egad.
Mayor DeBlasio and Governor Cuomo loathe each other.  DeBlasio said he saw signs for $2 million condos in lower Manhattan and he’d “correct that,” that he wants the city government to set limits on apartment prices.  [Mao in Manhattan?]
Tuesday 12 September 2017 / Hour 3, Block B:  Monica Crowley, London Center, in re: Pres Trump has a cabinet organized for war-fighting: both external, and domestic disasters such as Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.  Democratic candidates for the presidency in 2020 all are long of tooth (Bernie Sanders, Jo Biden, Elizabeth Warren and the 82-year-old Jerry Brown). Also McAuliffe, Harris, and one or two others who are B-list.
Tuesday 12 September 2017 / Hour 3, Block C:   Robert Zimmerman, BehindtheBlack.com, in re:  The Murray Formation, Vera Rubin Ridge on Mars.  Transitioning to Hematite(?) Ridge.  [more: on Jupiter]  Cassini’s last days; execution into Saturn on Saturday.  Kuyper Belt.
Tuesday 12 September 2017 / Hour 3, Block D: Robert Zimmerman, BehindtheBlack.com, in re:   . . . Iran says it has a space program: it’ll send a man into space in the next  years; negotiating with Russia.  . . . Capitalism in space: a 3D printing of a rocket engine.
