JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW
Co-host: Larry Kudlow, CNBC senior advisor; & Cumulus Media radio

Hour One
Tuesday  19 July 2016   / Hour 1, Block A:  Larry Kudlow & Steve Moore (Heritage), in Cleveland in re: Cleveland convention report. Kudlow, Moore, Laffer and others in Cleveland to . . Also: . . . link from economic security to international security Trump took high ground:  defending cops, not buying into racism.  If elected, he’ll immed press Congress for a war resolution against ISIS and other terrorist groups  —and then we must follow through!   On my radio program G P Schultz and H Kissinger: shd have declared war long ago, need to take the fight in to its territory with a full-throated military strategy that will destroy them and win.
Tuesday  19 July 2016   / Hour 1, Block B:  Larry Kudlow & Steve Moore (Heritage), in Cleveland in re: SM: Am standing just outside the convention hall. Trump will propose a pro-growth tax, corp down from 35% down to 15%, will bring a flood of jobs back to the US; and stop taxing our exports – and eliminate t he death tax. Death will no longer be a taxable event.  All in the Reagan mode. Will be the biggest pro-growth tax reform since 1986.  The single most stimulative action that can be taken – at present we're not even competitive around the world.  Limited govt spending.  Trump wants to balance the budget; will cut a lot of agencies; repeal Obamacare and replace it with a more rational program. Every day the Obamacare news is worse – not one American has yet saved $2,500 on health insurance.  Sound money.   Free trade:  Steve Moore helped to move the candidate to the right direction: if we make a deal with another country it has to play by the rules. China doesn't; and we have laws we need to enforce.  Cd have temporary tiny tariffs to make the case.  Steve carried the heavy lumber and persuaded Mr Trump of the benefits of free trade.  Immigration policy: shift from family-based immigration to skills-based immigration. Right now, we educate the kids through Harvard and then force them to leave.  Getting rid of sanctuary cities – getting these criminal to be deported. I want a clear border: I worry about ISIS sneaking through our southern border. When illegals come across, we need to end our current policy of catch-and-release. I want catch-and-deport.  We also must start screening immigrants – that’s what Americans want. Since it was Steve Moore who pressed on till  he’d clarified these matters to the candidate, on Thursday let the camera fix on Steve’s face.
Tuesday  19 July 2016   / Hour 1, Block C:  Bill Whalen, Hoover,  & Steve Moore, Heritage, in re:  538 blog numbers; GOP numbers moved from low 20s to high 30s; Clinton from low 80s to low 60s today.  538 combines state polling with national polling.  Question: convention bounce coming?  Will there be a numbers see-saw?   Hoover does a rolling survey; we see that Trump is  solidifying his numbers among Republican. Married women: he needs to make up ground fast with them now.  I thought that when FBI director Comey issued a nonindictment indictment, that would be damning. Second, about the rash of shootings: Trump has taken the correct ground whereas Clinton speaks of Black Live Matter, she said that 18,000 police departments have systemic racism and need to be retrained.   . . . The speech-cribbing: Mrs Trump might have said, “If that’s the case, I give Mrs Obama credit as we have the same sentiments in these matters.”   Voting for Gary Johnson in California: he’s a free-mkt guy and strong on marijuana; not all conservatives can buy in. Jill Stein is the natural segué from Bernie Sanders.  . . . Law and order have crept in; economic . . .   Kasich defends decision to skip convention
Kasich has refused to endorse Donald Trump or attend the convention.

Tuesday  19 July 2016   / Hour 1, Block D:  David Drucker, Washington Examiner, in re: Cribbing/plagiarism by Mrs Trump of one paragraph of Mrs Obama’s 2008 speech.  Much spoken of in Cleveland. Trump campaign prefers not to admit a mistake but just keep ploughing ahead This took away from a truly great performance by Melania Trump.  Good speech on values and family.  Why not just say, “Speechwriter made a mistake; but Mrs Trump and Mrs Obama agree on some universal principles”? Trump won't admit organizational snafus, which bleeds over into his organization.  Apparatus s not smooth; it's coming together late and still is understaffed.  Disjointed; candidate is micromanaging, not a good idea.  . . .  So many unhappy Americans: economics, ISIS, soldiers overseas.  Just put together a really strong issues speech – economy, ISIS, and esp show the rest of the country that he can do the job.  With Clinton, people beleive she’s qualified to do the job if she’d just tell the truth.  http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/trump-wins-but-with-most-delegates-opposed-in-40-years/article/2597007
Tuesday  19 July 2016   / Hour 2, Block A:  Rita Cosby, WABC Senior News Director, in Cleveland, in re: Report on the convention.
Brett Arends, author, The Romney Files, Storm Proof Your Money, et al.; in re: (anent the plagiarism of a paragraph in Mrs Trump’s speech) The right thing to do would have been to say, Oh, it was an intern’s error, and then the story would be gone.  The fascinating thing is that the whole campaign is pouring fuel on the fire.  The whole crew is not ready, can't get their message straight, but he game is on. If the next three months are like this it'll be a disaster. – But heaven for reporters!     Is a common phrase like “One’s word is one’s bond” plagiarism?    Twilight Sparkle is the star of My Little Pony?   The RNC actually said that Twilight Sparkle entertained the same sentiments.   Is the RNC losing it, too? Today, speed is blinding and leads to errors, incl ghastly typos in major papers. / In fact, it wasn’t a word or two; if you compare the two speeches it's flagrant. Problem is that the Trump campaign didn't kill this story at 7:20 this morning in a pleasant apology.  Problem is that this is Donald Trump’s reaction to everything, so far. He never apologizes.   The best you get is a walk-back a week later.
Tuesday  19 July 2016   / Hour 2, Block B: Lara M Brown, George Washington University, in re:  Will this negative drive the next hundred days? Yep.  This is like watching the Ford Bronco drive on the freeway – we can't turn away, yet know that it will end badly.  We've turned our election process into fear and loathing.  Will we survive this?  We’ve already done so often in the past.  The wider world is mostly stunned by the nomination of Donald Trump; Clinton’s flaws are less obvious at 10,000 miles. The entire global system depends on the full faith and credit of the United States; has backstopped the world since 1941   The idea that we could have an administration to make W Bush look benign is hair-raising.    World has the same glib assumption with Brexit.  Worry about very low turn-out; the party with the most committed supporters will turn out here. That would be Trump.    Overseas markets need to know that negativity can generate either one as a winner.
Tuesday  19 July 2016   / Hour 2, Block C: Robert Zimmerman, behindtheblack, com, in re: SpaceX seeks two more pads for returning 1st stages   The competition heats up: SpaceX is asking for permission to establish two more landing pads so that it will have the capability of landing three first stages all within minutes of each other.
“SpaceX expects to fly Falcon Heavy for the first time later this year,” the company said in a statement responding to questions. “We are also seeking regulatory approval to build two additional landing pads at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. We hope to recover all three Falcon Heavy rockets, though initially we may attempt drone ship landings” at sea.
This news suggests two things: 1. The first Falcon Heavy launch is definitely coming soon. 2. They are going to try to return all three 1st stages during that first launch. (1 of 2)

Hour Three
Tuesday  19 July 2016   / Hour 3, Block A:   Stephen F. Cohen, Prof. Emeritus of Russian Studies/History/Politics at NYU and Princeton; also Board of American Committee for East-West Accord (eastwestaccord.com); in re: The problematic coup in Turkey; many thousands arrested and jailed and being abused.  A major NATO ally is in turmoil, which is relevant to Russia.  Also, “Ukraine fighting threatens to reignite conflict full-scale.”  We’re in a new cold war; two new characteristic scandal a scandal in the Olympics plus an outburst of neo-McCarthyism, where Americans accuse Russia of having taken over the GOP [??]  Nice on Bastille Day: the killing of all those people led France to deploy its army to its borders. Looks like the end of he European Union.  With Brexit and the migration crisis, the EU is dying, which is the coming-apart of the world order. In August 1991 (?). called “dacha month”, attempted mil coup against Gorbachov.   Turkey: persistent reports that Erdogan was behind the coup in order to get rid of his opponents. Others think Washington either knew of the coup or maybe abetted it.  All sorts of rumors. Massive purge Erdogan will use to strengthen his power.   Erdogan is an essential economic and mil supporter of ISIS.  Obama said, “Not OK to overthrow an elected president” – but the US overthrew Mubarak and Yanukovich.

Tuesday  19 July 2016   / Hour 3, Block B:  Stephen F. Cohen, eastwestaccord.com; in re:  "I spoke to Foreign Minister Lavrov again today," he said.
"We both believe that we have an understanding of the direction we are going in and what needs to be achieved and our teams will meet shortly and we are going to continue to do that in order to bolster the cessation of hostilities and in order to increase our capacity to fight back against al Qaeda, which is Nusra, as well as fight back against ISIL," Kerry said.
"We will also do everything in our power to improve delivery of food, medicine, water, incredibly essential humanitarian needs," Kerry said.
In a meeting with U.N. Syria envoy Staffan de Mistura in London, Kerry said it was vital for Moscow to use its influence with the Assad regime to halt its attacks on opposition groups and innocent civilians, which he said were in violation of the cessation of hostilities.
He also emphasized the need to end all attempts to besiege the city of Aleppo and other besieged towns and ensure full humanitarian access there, according to State Department Spokesperson John Kirby.
Kerry said last week after talks with President Vladimir Putin and Lavrov in Moscow he had reached a common understanding on the steps needed to get Syria's peace process back on track.
However he declined to give details and said that more work was needed before those steps could be implemented and that Russia and the United States still differed over the future of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
At the same London news conference, Britain's Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson called on Russia to use its "unique ability" to stop the Syrian conflict by convincing Assad to put an end to five years of fighting that have ravaged the country.
"Russia in particular has a unique ability to persuade the Assad regime to end the carnage and return to the negotiating table," Johnson said.
