Governor Romney at Boca Raton debate: "It’s wonderful that Libya seems to be making some progress, despite this terrible tragedy, but next door, of course, we have Egypt. Libya’s 6 million population, Egypt 80 million population. We want — we want to make sure that we’re seeing progress throughout the Middle East. With Mali now having North Mali taken over by al-Qaida, with Syria having Assad continuing to — or to kill — to murder his own people, this is a region in tumult. And of course Iran on the path to a nuclear weapon. We’ve got real gaps in the region."

JOHN BATCHELOR SHOW

Co-host: Larry Kudlow, The Kudlow Report, CNBC

Tuesday 905P Eastern Time:   Larry Kudlow, in re: Disappointed that Romney has become such a China-basher. They do seal IP and do cyberhacking, but we have to deal with them.  Currencies don't affect trade.  Romney also wants a strong dollar – and to depreciate the dollar 40% vis-à-vis the yuan. Can't have both.

Tuesday 920P Eastern Time: John McLaughlin, strategic consultant, market researcher and pollster, in re: polls.

Tuesday 935P Eastern Time: Victor Davis Hanson, Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution, in re:  commentary on last night's debate between presidential candidates.  Bing West (former Asst SecDef) narrative: We could have had Navy jets buzzing the Benghazi "consulate" within three hours, or black helos in minutes.

In the last twenty minutes, someone has leaked the information that at 6:07 PM Eastern time: Ansar al-Sharia [al Q-linked jihadist organization]  claims responsibility for the attack.  Bing West said that Obama mat with Panetta at 5PM – but they failed to take any significant action.   Between 4 and 6:07 that night, the president had all the information.  Lax and unprepared.  The White House never told us that they had this information.

Tuesday 950P Eastern Time:  Bill Whalen, Hoover, in re: Can you win the electoral college and lose the popular vote?  Has happened a few times, but not likely now for the president.  Supposedly the Obamas' marriage was weak some years ago.  Romney is invading enemy territory. Indiana, North Carolina, Florida: Obama will shed these states.  Light-blue states.  Discussion of specifics; 286 includes Ohio, Iowa, Nevada, Florida, Montana for Romney?

Tuesday 1005P (705P Pacific Time): Devin Nunes (CA-21) Bakken field: a geological and financial bonanza, from the Dakotas to Montana and stretching all directions. t gas an oil in and around Fresno?  Devin to Williston N Dakota – a boom town of a sort I've never seen. Right now, 5% of the US oil is coming from the Bakken, up from about zero fiver years ago. More from ht Bakken than from Iraq. Over the next five years, it cd triple in output – if the govt doesn't get in the way.  A hamlet that had ten people in it now is spilling over with people, houses, trailers.  Starting salaries are just under $100K for roughnecks, usu two weeks on, two weeks off. People from all over. A house at $180K five years ago, now $500K. Missouri River starts in Montana at Three Forks.  The Keystone XL Pipeline wd really help. Was a desolate, very poor place – barley, wheat, declining population.  The roads and infrastructure can’t handle the trucks. Carrying oil: trucks and trains; no pipeline, and EPA won’t allow a refinery. Oil needs to get to Oklahoma.  The choke in infrastructure costs $9/Bbl!    Of oil discovered in the last five years: 96% on private land.  Old guy allowed some drillers to look on his land, he signed a contract, got a check for $120K.  Hunh? Went and bought a new John Deere tractor to please himself, drives it all over, incl to the coffee shop. 65,000 jobs created there in the last five years; can triple output, so add a few more tens of thousands of jobs.

Tuesday 1020P (720P Pacific Time):  Eric Trager, Washington Institute, in re: Egypt, Morsi, Muslim Brotherhood. Obama: said he moved because he didn’t want to see tanks roll over students in Tahrir Square; Obama Adm claims it prevented massive violence.  If he did so, it was at a point by which Mubarak was no longer going to be able to stay in power.  When tanks did roll over mostly Christian protestors, this administration was silent.  Its failure to speak out on violence vs Christians last year has left bitterness and tragedy among Copts in Egypt.  Egypt is already sliding toward a deeply theocratic future; the time to throw down a gauntlet is now. To continue aid with no discussion says to the MB that it can continue unabated and unchallenged.  recall that Morsi said Egypt is neither an ally nor an enemy of the US.

Tuesday 1035P (735P Pacific Time): Stephen Cohen, NYU, in re: Russia; Putin; the Kremlin's views on Syria, Central Asia, Turkey. Ten years ago, the Dubrovka Theater in Moscow: 130 dead after the attack, siege, and use of gas by the Russian authorities. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moscow_theater_hostage_crisis

Reports of hundreds of Chechens now fighting in Syria on the side of the rebels.

Since then, terrorism in Russia has become so much worse that the whole episode in the theater has become merely that. Russia has lost over 3,000 citizens in terrorist attacks.  Russian discussion on the significance of what Romney said in the debate last night (among the commentariat). Averral that the US will never be a friend, or else that the US will in fact be a close ally.  Last night's debate strengthened the more hostile view. Putin wants peace in order to rebuild Russia; he somewhat prefers Obama. European system of missile defense is the main sticking point in the US-Russian discussions. We're speaking of the future of nuclear weapons, and perhaps looking at a new cold war.  The Euro crisis is damaging to Russia, since Europe can’t afford as much O&G from Rosneft and Gazprom.  Russia turns it energy face increasingly to the East: China and Japan, and Russia has the pipelines.  The more Western Russia is, the more democratic it is. Romney sees Russia as a geopolitical threat: Putin wd ask, the difference  between natl security and geopolitical threat.  Romney referred to Russia's veto at he UN, which relates now to the Middle East.

Tuesday 1050P (750P Pacific Time): Stephen Cohen, NYU, continued.

Tuesday 1105P (805P Pacific Time):  William McGurn, WSJ, in re: John McCain from 2008 was correct about the Obama naivete on foreign policy.

Tuesday 1120P (820P Pacific Time): Jed Babbin, American Spectator, in re: Romney is more of a peacenik than Pres Obama; Romney runs to the left of Obama

Tuesday 1135P (835P Pacific Time): Bob Zimmerman, behind the black, in re: Soyuz launch of crew to ISS; also private space enterprise, also  X-37B

Tuesday 1150P (850P Pacific Time): Bob Zimmerman, behind the black, in re: Italian scientists go to jail for not predicting an earthquake; also, Lake Vostok: no life yet; and Giant Magellan Telescope.

Tuesday/Wed 1205A (905 Pacific Time): Larry Kudlow, in re: Disappointed that Romney has become such a China-basher. They do seal IP and do cyberhacking, but we have to deal with them.  Currencies don't affect trade.  Romney also wants a strong dollar – and to depreciate the dollar 40% vis-à-vis the yuan. Can't have both.

Tuesday/Wed  1220A (920 Pacific Time): John McLaughlin, strategic consultant, market researcher and pollster, in re: polls.

Tuesday/Wed  1235A (935P Pacific Time): Victor Davis Hanson, Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution, in re:  commentary on last night's debate between presidential candidates.  Bing West (former Asst SecDef) narrative: We could have had Navy jets buzzing the Benghazi "consulate" within three hours, or black helos in minutes. [Benghazi has no US consulate; it was more like a safe house for CIA training ops.]

In the last twenty minutes, someone has leaked the information that at 6:07 PM Eastern time: Ansar al-Sharia [an al Q-linked jihadist organization]  claims responsibility for the attack.  Bing West said that Obama mat with Panetta at 5PM – but they failed to take any significant action.   Between 4 and 6:07 that night, the president had all the information.  Lax and unprepared.  The White House never told us that they had this information.

Tuesday/Wed  1250A  (950P Pacific Time): Exeunt. Allison Bennett, Bloomberg, in re:  the carry trade and why it no longer works,
