Hour One

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 1, Block A:

The Governing Trap  The GOP should outline an agenda for the future.

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 1, Block B:  Edward W Hayes, criminal defense attorney par excellence, in re: When the final votes are counted, Republicans likely increased their control of the 98 state legislative chambers to 67 from 59, which means they will run outright both the legislatures and governorships in 24 states. Democrats hold six. A reform moment is building and picking up converts, which means U.S. economic revival will be nurtured in the states, if not in Washington.

Trouble: POTUS Obama micromanaging, Mayor DeBlasio micromanaging, Commissioner Bratton micromanaging NYPD uniforms

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 1, Block C: Jamie Smyth, Financial Times in Sydney, Australia;  in re: Australia terror laws heighten civil liberties concerns

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 1, Block D: David M Drucker, Washington Examiner Senior Congressional correspondent, in re:  At Republicans headquarters in Washington, top strategists predicted days in advance that the GOP would win the Senate and gain House seats despite polls suggesting many races could go either way

Hour Two

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 2, Block A: Ambassador Dore Gold, president of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs; in re:

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 2, Block B: Amb Elin Suleymanov, ambassador of Azerbaijan to the United States; in re:  new Azerbaijan natural gas to Europe. Iran. Israel-Azeri relations.  Excellent interethnic relations across the board, which stood to Azerbaijan's benefit under the Soviet Union. Now has good relations with Russia and Ukraine; also Georgia.  Blessed by God to be in a splendid, strategic geographical position and with massive natural resources.  In Kuba in Azerbaijan,, Jews and Moslems live adjacent, across the river from each other and having harmonious and amiable relations for 1,500 years.

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 2, Block C: Gil Hoffman, chief political correspondent and analyst for The Jerusalem Post; in re: Temple Mount, sacred for multiple reasons, now under assaults.  Money coming from Qatar, to northern branch of Islamic movement in Israel, which gives to two organizations in Israel – pays children to throw stones and helps women smuggle weapons under their garb. Sheikh Riyadh Sullah, head of most extremist Israeli Arabs in Israel. This has been going on for months.   John Kerry said Qatar is a US ally; got it wrong People interviewed on TV said, "We heard that Jews trampled Qurans on the Temple Mount."  This is wildly inaccurate.  Abbas carefully spread lies in this matter. It's illegal for a Jew to pray on Temple Mount.  This is also anti-Christian. The people of Israel do not care for the US president being so extremely disrespectful of Israel.  PM Netanyahu finds that every time Pres Obama is vulgar and rude to him, his polls go up in Israel.  Israelis see this vulgarity as specific to Pres Obama, not the sentiments of the American people.  Bibi is said to think that the Democratic Party will re-make its image to correspond with Hillary.  Jonathan Pollard: jailed for thirty years, as of Nov 21, supposedly for spying; extremely controversial. No one has ever served more than six years for passing classified information to an ally.  Pollard, who's long since apologized and expressed remorse, is being kept as a bargaining chip.  Bizarre and inhumane.

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 2, Block D:  Frank Luntz, “the Nostradamus of pollsters,” said Sir David Frost; in re: the 2014 midterms weren't so much an endorsement of the GOP as a rejection of the Democrats. "It's a mess."  The not-too-popular Florida governor was re-elected. The 2002 1and 2004 elections were on national security.  All subsequent about the economy, Forty per cent ling paycheck to paycheck 70% believe that politicians do not understand what they're going through.  Fla, Wisc, Mich, Mass, Ill, Maryland – GOP won because of state, not national, issues.  The fight isn’t over the size of govt but over the quality of govt.  Iran is an example, eke DPRK, Syria, ISIS – we feel more threatened today than a decade a go. What this president has unwittingly done is create a sense of vulnerability at home and weakness abroad – we can’t make friends with our avowed enemies.  . . . Latinos feel that the GOP doesn’t appreciate or respect them.  In the 1850s, was called nativism.  Drop from 73% to 66% Latino votes for Democrats in 2014.

Hour Three

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 3, Block A:  Malcolm Hoenlein, Conference of Presidents, in re: Jerusalem. Sinai. Iran. Hezbollah is under siege. has stationed a thousand men on the border.  ICC will not press the Marmora case: ""Charges are insignificant." Dempsey: "During the Gaza war, Israel made exceptional efforts to avoid hitting civilians."  . . . Found hundreds of new tunnels from Gaza into Sinai.  Israel sends more troops and attack helos; now find groups attached to ISIS.  Morsi allowed the tunnels; al Sisi sees that it’s a threat to Egypt and is taking dramatic steps: won’t renew trade agreement with Turkey because of Erdogan's hostile behavior.  Sis aligned with Saudi Arabia and won't be turned around.   Report that Pres Obama is [secretly] corresponding with Iran – repeated reports that US denies and Iran asserts.  Iran claims hegemony over four capitals – Sanaa, Baghdad, [Damascus?] & Teheran. US speaks of allowing 6,00 centrifuges.  Started

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 3, Block B: IDF Lt.-Col. (ret.) Michael [Mickey] Segall, in re: Yemen. Iran.  Reports for a long time that the president of the democracy of the US is corresponding with the brute dictatorship of Iran.  Odd.  Iran and US cooperate anent ISIS, thus winning Iran a sweeter deal on its nuclear efforts as it moves swiftly to capability to reach Europe with nuclear missile.  As Houthis are Iranian-controlled, Iran is encircling the Arab world. In Syria and Lebanon.  Drugs into Europe, and control of many jihadist groups everywhere.  Iran: the head of the Assembly of Experts has died and Khamenei is ill.  What they want now is a good nuclear deal.  The dropping price of oil is affecting Iran and its economy: they count on $115/Bbl, now prices are at $80.

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 3, Block C: Robert Zimmerman, behindtheblack.com, in re: A geological score for Curiosity!  Spectroscopy from Curiosity’s most recent drilling has been found to match and thus confirm the spectroscopy of the same spot taken years ago from orbit.  In observations reported in 2010, before selection of Curiosity’s landing site, a mineral-mapping instrument on NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter provided evidence of hematite in the geological unit that includes the Pahrump Hills outcrop. The landing site is inside Gale Crater, an impact basin about 96 miles (154 kilometers) in diameter with the layered Mount Sharp rising about three miles (five kilometers) high in the center.

“We’ve reached the part of the crater where we have the mineralogical information that was important in selection of Gale Crater as the landing site,” said Ralph Milliken of Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island. He is a member of Curiosity’s science team and was lead author of that 2010 report in Geophysical Research Letters identifying minerals based on observations of lower Mount Sharp by the orbiter’s Compact Reconnaissance Imaging Spectrometer for Mars (CRISM). “We’re now on a path where the orbital data can help us predict what minerals we’ll find and make good choices about where to drill. Analyses like these will help us place rover-scale observations into the broader geologic history of Gale that we see from orbital data.” This is a significant finding. Not only does this data now prove that the orbital data is correct, it demonstrates that scientists can now use that orbital data to direct Curiosity to even more interesting geological surface features. In fact, this ground-based data will help them calibrate all their orbital data more precisely, thus making our geological knowledge of Mars more accurate and reliable.

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 3, Block D:    Daniel Henninger, WSJ, in re: midterm elections

Hour Four

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 4, Block A: Sen Phil Gramm, in re: Republican out look post-midterms.

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 4, Block B: Ann Marlow, Hudson Institute, in re:  Libya. Tripoli attacks. Regional instability.

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 4, Block C: Temptations of Power: Islamists and Illiberal Democracy in a New Middle East, by Shadi Hamid (1 of 2)

Thursday  6 November  2014 / Hour 4, Block D: Temptations of Power: Islamists and Illiberal Democracy in a New Middle East, by Shadi Hamid (2 of 2)
