Tuesday  8 December 2015/ Hour 1, Block A: Bill Whalen, Hoover, in re:  1) Trump may have done the field a gi-normous favor by saying something so outlandish that his rivals seem reasonable — plus challenging them to come up with radicalized Islam strategies of their own.
2) The comb-over is a do-over: before Trump, we had Buchanan, Wallace, Thurmond and Long. All exploited anger, fear and frustration in uncertain times. Nothing new here, just a guy with a better plane and worse hair.
3) The need for a more cinematic president. Obama is the touchy-feeling American President as played by Michael Douglas. The times call for Harrison Ford in Air Force One (“get off my plane”). This is where Sunday’s sermon from the round fell flat — when America’s attacked, we expect our president to show indignation. Tuesday  8 December 2015/ Hour 1, Block C:  Veronique de Rugy says abolish the Department of Agriculture at her new post at National Reviews’s The Corner; in re: I have been writing for months about the Export-Import Bank being one of the worst crony programs in Washington. However, I think the programs under the Department of Agriculture may take the cake. I have written many times about the outrageous sugar program — a racket that protects a politically powerful cartel of domestic sugar-processing companies at the expense of consumers and taxpayers. Then, there is the awful ethanol program. We also have programs like the Dairy Margin Protection Program (DMPP) and the Dairy Market Stabilization program (DMS). Turkey has begun a de facto blockade of Russian naval vessels, preventing transit through the Dardanelles and the Strait of Bosporus, between the Black Sea and Mediterranean.    According to the AIS tracking system for the movement of maritime vessels, only Turkish vessels are moving along the Bosphorus, and in the Dardanelles there is no movement of any shipping at all.
